Aerial Yoga Classes...
The Aerial Studio will close for the winter on Friday 4 November and will re-open in the spring 2023
What is Aerial Yoga?
Combining aspects of the aerial arts, hatha yoga and sling training, Aerial Yoga is a dynamic practice that not only increases strength, flexibility and coordination, but provides an effective way to rehabilitate the spine due to the reduction of pressure on the vertebrae. Not as acrobatic or death-defying as it may seem, aerial sessions are a lot of fun and at times incredibly relaxing. Sessions at Amulet Studio... Amulet’s Aerial Studio in St Martin Laguépie, offers a 90 minute weekly class at 10h30 on Wednesdays for beginners, another 90 minute 'Progressive' class on a Friday at 10h30 for those who are attending classes regularly, and a once-a-month session on the 1st Sunday of each month. Private sessions for individuals and groups up to 4 people are available for booking weekdays between 12h – 17h, with weekend sessions available on request. Before the session begins, a bit of time will be spent adjusting the swing to the ideal height for each person, followed by a brief introduction to the equipment to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the class. A warm-up sequence will then be performed to warm the muscles and energise the body. Following inversion sequences will be interspersed with strength training and relaxation. The class ends with a delightfully relaxing savasana in the swing. |
Clothing...
As the yoga swing is often pressed tightly against the skin it’s advisable to wear long sleeves and knee or ankle-length trousers to limit discomfort. The clothing should be tight-fitting so it remains in place during inversions and doesn’t become tangled in the swing. Clothing with zips or any metal fasteners isn’t permissible as they may tear the swing and all jewellery must be removed. Food & Drink... It’s best to avoid eating a heavy meal 2-3hrs before a session, a light meal or snacks are fine up to an hour before. Bringing a bottle of water to sip throughout the session is advisable. |
Discomfort...
Due to the pressure of the swing pressing against the body a small amount of discomfort is to be expected across the hips, tops of thighs and armpits, particularly in inversions. The sensation (and benefit) is similar to the after-effects of a deep-tissue massage and will be short-lived. However, if any of the poses become too uncomfortable please mention it as there it may be ways to modify the posture to limit the amount of discomfort. Poses can also be held for a shorter duration thereby lessening their impact. Aerial yoga is not suitable for those suffering from certain medical conditions. Please view the list of contraindications before booking. |
