Escape & Explore Yoga Weekend - The Yoga...

Throughout the weekend we will explore the appeal and principals of Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga, with a different style forming the basis of each day.  In the morning session we will discover and become familiar with the respective techniques and then simply enjoy the energising and restorative benefits of the style with a second practice in the late afternoon.  A drop in ‘surgery’ will be available during the afternoon for anyone who is keen to practise, play or chat about yoga some more.

Hatha Yoga...

Picture
Hatha is a classical form of yoga from which most styles have emerged and therefore a great place to start our yoga journey.  The class will begin with sun salutations to focus the mind and energise the body before moving into a series of static asana (postures).  While holding a posture we will aim, through subtle adjustments, to bring the body into alignment, where strength, flexibility and energy flow is improved allowing the body’s systems to work more effectively.  This slow and considered practice creates a powerful connection between body and mind and deepens self-awareness considerably.

Vinyasa Yoga...

Picture
Vinyasa is a more dynamic form of Hatha and will be the focus for our practice on Day Two.  Drawing on postures from Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa uses a flowing series of movements to transition from one posture to the next.  With less focus on alignment and more emphasis on the ‘flow’, each movement is synchronised to the breath, creating a powerful active meditation that connects body and mind.  The sequences, whilst vigorous, are paced to suit the individual; they build strength and stamina, improve flexibility and balance, and also have an excellent detoxifying effect.

Yin Yoga...

Our yoga journey will end on the third day with a wonderfully restorative Yin Yoga session.  Unlike the more dynamic ‘yang’ practices experienced over the first two days, Yin Yoga uses a series of long-held, passive floor poses to target the connective tissues of the lower part of the body.  The aim is to increase circulation to the tendons, fascia and ligaments, thereby nourishing the joints and vastly improving flexibility and longevity.  Although relaxing, the practice requires patience and therefore can be quite challenging, however when inner stillness is found subtle shifts can occur which can be deeply profound.
